The Jay Monahan Center Presents a Free Colorectal Cancer Prevention & Screening Seminar with Katie Couric

Posted March 27, 2009

The Jay Monahan Center for Gastrointestinal Health hosted its fifth annual Community Colon Cancer Prevention Day this March. The event was open to the public, and included seminars in colorectal cancer screening and prevention by Dr. Mark Pochapin and Dr. Felice Schnoll-Sussman. Educational materials were made available from the Monahan Center, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Cancer Prevention Program, American Cancer Society, the Colon Cancer Alliance, and others.

Katie Couric was the keynote speaker. Ms. Couric relayed her own family’s experience after the loss of her husband Jay to colon cancer in 1998. She urged audience members to talk with their doctors about getting screened for this treatable and often preventable disease.
